Just do the dishes

September 16, 2008

Here is a lesson for all you newlyweds…..when she gets the crazy eyes….just do the dishes

Woman faces charge after dishwashing dispute

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Police say a 20-year-old woman faces an aggravated assault charge after she bit her boyfriend, broke a picture frame across his face and swung at him with a sword during an argument about him not doing the dishes.

The woman was arrested Thursday afternoon at the couple’s apartment, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on its Web site.

The 21-year-old man told police that he became involved in an argument because the woman was upset that the dishes were not clean. Police Lt. Paul Henderson said the woman told the man to leave the apartment, but he refused.

Henderson said the woman then tried to physically remove the man. During the ensuing struggle, the woman bit the man’s right shoulder and broke a picture frame across his face, causing visible cuts, Henderson said. The woman then grabbed an approximately 2-foot sword and swung it at him, but missed, police said. The woman was released from a Mansfield jail after posting a $10,000 bond, jail officials said.Henderson said the man and woman had lived together for four months.

How to talk to a Woman

September 12, 2008

You would think after nine years I would have learned something, but I am as clueless as day 1.

Maybe this can help some poor man out there….

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. ‘Five minutes’ is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

](3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with ‘nothing’ usually end in ‘fine’.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about ‘nothing’. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of ‘nothing’.)

(6) That’s Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a man. ‘That’s okay’ means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you’re welcome. (I want to add in a clause here – This is true, unless she says ‘Thanks a lot’ – that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say ‘you’re welcome’ . .. That will bring on a ‘whatever’).

(8) Whatever: Is a woman’s way of saying ‘SCREW YOU’!

(9) Don’t worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking ‘What’s wrong?’ For the woman’s response refer to # 3

i get alot of fine’s and nothings….

Pee in the Cup and get your check

September 11, 2008

I got an email the other day that got me thinking.

Should we and could we require that people pass a drug test in order to qualify for government aid.  Things such as welfare, housing, etc.

I have to say…i am all for this.  This would obviously have to pass the ol’ Constitutional test in the courts, but I believe that if it did go before a level headed judge it would pass.  It would obviously be challenged under the pretense of the IV Amendment.  The far left would decry this as an “obvious” invasion of our privacy and a violation of our rights.

So the question balance of this question tips on whether you believe someone’s right to privacy outweighs the government responsiblity to manage taxpayer dollars.  Charles Murray talks about some of this in his book, What it Means to be a Libertarian.  I am not a professing Libertarian, although I believe my Conservative values don’t fall to far from Libertarian beliefs.

You see, I fiercly believe that the government does a horrible job of managing tax dollars collected.  I know that is no breaking news to anyone.  However, I am convinced that if the Republican candidates would run on the platform of stopping goverernment mismangement of funds that they would encounter great success.  I believe the first priority of government is to protect the people..second is to manage funds collected.

Therefore, the goverernment has a RESPONSIBILITY to make sure that the funds compelled from me in the form of taxes aren’t used to purchase drugs and other forms of illegal contraband.  Taxpayers don’t give up portions of their checks in order to fund drug habits.  You have seen it in the case of Hurricane Katrina.  The FEMA issued debit cards were used for purchases of Louis Vitton handbags, adult entertainment, breast implants, plasma TV’s, etc.  Not a good use of tax dollars if you ask me.

So, the argument would go that requiring people to pass a drug test would be an invasion of their privacy.  A God given right.  A constitutional guarantee……Well, individual rights do not exist in a vacuum.  Your individual rights only extend as far as they don’t infringe on another person’s right.  You do have freedom of speech and can use it as you see fit…but that right stops when you start slandering someone.

So, if the government places a requirement for eligibilty that a person pass a drug test in order to receive government funds…I believe their right to privacy ends when they accept government money.  No person has a right to receive money for groceries, housing, or anything else from the government.  These programs were put in place because Americans are good people….mericiful people….generous people.  Because government assitance is not an individual right…it can be regulated.

If you do not wish to comply with the regulations……don’t take the money.  When you say give me the money, you agree to comply with the conditions….no complying….no deposits

That’s my view..i’m tired of funding people’s crack habits

The $200 toilet rental

September 2, 2008

So, Saturday afternoon, Kalen, dad, and i trudged down to Norman for the sacrificial offering of Tenn-Chatanooga to the football gods at the hands of our great Sooners.  It was one of those great sentimental plans….you know me taking my dad and my son to a game…a great male experience to be remembered for years.

So, I bought tickets..we get in the stadium…and right at kickoff..Kalen gets sick…fever, throwing up and the joys that come with that…..So, essentially i bought $200 worth of rental time at an Owen Field toilet….we decided to leave at halftime….we got just south of the stadium and a good ol’ Oklahoma thunderstorm erupted…I’m not talking a little refreshing rain..I swear the drops were the size of golf balls….I have taken showers with less water pressure than the rain I was walking in….and the lightning was so close that people would scream and it was as if tanks were firing.

We made the 1 1/4 mile walk to the car with dad and I splitting Kalen on our shoulders, as he was too weak to walk.  He is not light…as was confirmed to me Saturday…

Anyway, all is fine now..and I guess if it was all for memories…this I shall soon not forget….hopefully it is the last time i rent a toilet for $200

Gov. Sarah Palin

August 29, 2008

Having known only an hour, I realize it is still early..but at first glance, I really like McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin to be VP.  Seems like a really good choice and to have caught the Dems off balance..a good thing.

I think they will try fairly quickly to tie her to Ted Stevens…not sure if there is any linkage there..I would assume not since she was vetted…She is a mom, a governor, looks good on camera.  And I think it is important to remember that when Obama tried the bulldog approach on Hillary, his numbers started going down.

It seems a fresh choice…something that should be good for McCain…If Karl Rove thinks it is a good choice..sign me up…I am interested to hear what Dick Morris has to say.

—EXTRA—-

okay, so I have been doing some reading on Gov. Palin..really like her….i did find this funny

yahoo news did an article and in the last line mentions her child with downs syndrome…here is what they said:

“She and her husband Todd Palin, have five children. The latest, a baby, was born with Down syndrome.”

What an amazing woman..she gave birth to…A BABY!!!  Thanks for your deep digging yahoo..I would hate to put someone in the office of Vice President that was giving birth to aliens or chickens…

I am not at any way making light of the disabled child..anyone who knows us knows we have a special place for that…only the journalism involved

Olympics Wrap-up

August 25, 2008

Okay, so I know I have been bad and not written….But now school is back in session and the kids are tucked away in their little caves of learning.  Thus, I am back in the office everyday, and aim to blog 4-5 times a week.

Our house was very unenthusiastic about the Olympics beforehand..but as usual, we became mesmerized once they got started.  Here are 20 Olympics tid-bits from our house:

1.  MICHAEL PHELPS!!!  We were totally addicted to the swimming..Kind of a let down once the events from the Water Cube were over.  Dude is amazing!!  Best shot was between him after the Freestyle relay or his mom when she thought he lost in the butterfly…good stuff

2.  Officiating in international basketball is a complete joke.  Junior High officiating in our league is more consistent..with the rules being applied more correctly i might add…

3.  Everytime I see Shawn Johnson smile….my face hurts

4.  NBC was running out of things to cover when Saturday night they showed an entire marathon…seriously

5.  Gymnastics is not a sport…it is a competition…(YES, the gymnasts are athletes..that is not under debate)  Sports have defineable rules and consistent scoring systems…gymnastics is a Cold War political athletic event.

6.  Gymnastic tie-breakers are a joke….why should you win gold because you scored higher on an easier routine……umm, you should score higher because the routine is…you know, EASIER!!!

7.  We should talk to Ralph Lauren and his boys about getting the Water Polo dudes some new wardrobes…

8.  I was glad that we beat China in the medal count…

9.  I still think Becky Hammon was wrong to play for Russia in women’s basketball

10.  The fact that NBC did not have the Semi Final game in men’s basketball on live is an atrocity

11.  I tried but couldn’t get into diving this time

12.  While I like her, I thought Nastia Lukin should have worn national colors in the all around competition.  She is competing for herself but still representing her country.

13.  That Bolt dude is FAST

14.  Opening ceremony was cool

15.  Fowles should have gotten more PT in women’s basketball

16.  Wish I had seen more equestrian

17.  Like Natalie Coughlin

18.  Beach Volleyball was cool…a little wierd that Misty May-Treanor has a tatoo honoring Jason Kidd..but whatever

19.  London will suck because of the time difference

20.  Really happy for USA Men’s volleyball after the senseless tragedy involving Coach McCutheon’s father-n-law

Umm, 10th Amendment still valid…right?

June 18, 2008

So, yesterday Sen. Arlen Specter announces he isn’t going to push for anymore hearings regarding the NFL and “spygate”.  Essentially he said he has pushed as far as he can without anyone caring and still…no one cares….so he stops…. The whole thing was a horse and pony show with alterior motives…more on that later.

I was much more interested in something hidden in the bottom of the release…check it out here. He says that he is now going to look in to public financing of stadiums.

Excuse me Mr. Specter, while I admire your fight against cancer and the way that you managed the Supreme Court confirmation hearings, you are now showing your true Washington bureaucratic ways.  Essentially, I think this is why people hate politicians.  They stick there nose in everything and it only costs us (taxpayers) money for their horse and pony show.

Why is this stupid you ask?  More probable you are asking why should I care.  Well, there is this little thing called the tenth amendment in the constitution.  It essentially says that any power not expressly given to the federal government should be retained by the states.  So, I re-read the Constitution…turns out that the power to control financing of stadiums isn’t in the Constitution.  Funny, I always thought it was.

So why shouldn’t the Feds get involved?  Because all of these stadium projects are publicly funded not because some politician slipped it into a bill at the last minute without a vote (as routinely happens in Washington), but because they went to a vote of the people and guess what the people said…Yeah we will pay.  The people considered it a worthy investment and are paying for it themselves.  If you want to debate whether money should be given to multi-millionaire business men who could probably afford to build the stadium themselves while we have others in poverty and a under funded education system…have it…the cities that have approved stadiums have had just that debate and said…heck with education…we want sports.  Right or wrong, I’m not saying….but i am saying that the Feds should stay the heck away.

You see the Constitution wasn’t written by politicians to protect the government from people…It was written by level headed guys with names like Ben and Thomas, and a John or two.  They wrote it and offered it to the people for approval…It is the people’s document…not the government’s.  It was written to protect the people from the government.  It gives the people power…not Washington.

So, now why was Specter so interested in Spygate anyway..I promised i would tell…You see, the NFL Network and Comcast are in a big legal battle..Comcast is trying to stick the NFL Network on a tier or where subscribers would have to pay extra to get it.  NFL says..not so fast as they want their fans to have it.  (and they want the money from the network being available to more subscribers).  So anyway, they are at odds.

So all of this calling the NFL on the proverbial carpet is going on while this legal dispute goes on…well, guess who is the largest contributor to Sen. Specter’s campaign…..ding ding ding COMCAST!!! 153,000 to date through its Political Action Committees.   Surely, a politician wouldn’t have a conflict of interest?? NOOOOOOOOOOO

Anyway, just what’s on my mind right now

4 Baseballs, 12 hot dogs, 2 large drinks and lots o fun

June 11, 2008

Last night Kalen and I made the trip to the Redhawks game in OKC.  It was so much fun to get out and be able to have a night with him.  We have kind of mastered the art of getting baseballs, so that always excites him..and me for that matter….two minutes in the gates and we have caught our first home run ball…we were running a little late so we only caught the last five minutes of batting practice.

To top it off, it is $1 hot dog night…we managed to devour 12 hot dogs (six apiece) and 2 large souvenier drinks….yum $5 sprite… we ended the night with four baseballs..would have been more but some pesky little kids who did not buy tickets in front of us decided to sit in front of us.  Thus ending our chances for more baseballs.  I thoguth about saying something sincfe I had paid premium minor league money for the seats but alas I didn’t.

Kalen had a good time and that is what it was all about.  I wanted to make sure he had some special time since the girls had been a little ill and requiring more attention.  Makes me remember all the games that dad took me to growing up.  Dollar hot dog night is always good too…nothing like healthy grub!!

SIDENOTES

– I am so excited for WIPEOUT to start on ABC.  Maybe that is bad to take such pleasure in a show where it looks like people get injured…but the pure joy that overtakes me when the commercials come on is great. I think i have imparted that to Kalen as well.  When the commercials come on he gets that smile that takes up his whole face….check it out here   WIPEOUT-June 24th

That being said..I’m also pretty excited about I Survived a Japanese Game Show  since it airs on the same day as Wipeout….It should make for laugh out loud Tuesdays at our house.

-Bridget comes to live with us in less than two weeks.  The girls are excited about her coming…although I am not totally sure they understand what is going on, they just know that they want a puppy.

– my phone has died..which makes my heart sad…trying to buy a new one makes my wallet sad.

-I am now have the state of oklahoma’s authority to notarize…my parents are so proud
